The Sound Hunt Ep.17 | Exploring Forest Sounds with Binaural Microphone Placement on Trees

In this episode of The Sound Hunt, I document the raw process of hunting for acoustic sweet spots and the technical setup of omnidirectional microphones mounted directly onto tree trunks.

By utilizing tree trunks as natural boundaries for a spaced omni array, the forest itself becomes an integral part of the recording system. This method relies on the physical reality of the environment using natural barriers to create genuine spatial cues, timing differences, and organic level shifts. The result is a wide, immersive 3D soundstage that head mounted rigs simply cannot replicate.
